Combining Clinical and Genomic Data: a Fundamental Underpinning
By combining clinical and genomic data, the investigators and professionals of the Computational Medicine Center are uniquely positioned to address a range of problems affecting the entire population - from newborns to adults of all ages. The center supports several key projects, some of which reflect hundreds of hours of research, years of progress and significant financial support from other academic, private and governmental organizations. Highlights of our activities include:
- Design of a gene chip for diagnosing pediatric inner ear hearing loss
- Multiple studies focusing on a common mechanism of cell signaling that affects asthma and heart failure
- Creation of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and septic shock data banks for genomic analysis
- Development of a genetic pharmacology service for adult and pediatric patients
- Development of a genotype profiling tool for personal computers
- Use of natural language processing to develop an auto-ontologizer, or a system for automatically classifying text into established ontologies
