Responsibilities
- Develops and commercializes innovations that facilitate the integration of genetics and genomics into clinical medicine
- Enhances Ohio's computational medicine infrastructure by serving as a regional and state resource center for sophisticated data management needs
- Creates new jobs as the result of the commercialization of innovative technologies
- Serves as the receiving point for new projects recommended by the Science and Education Committee and for invention disclosures from intellectual property offices for projects within the center
- Evaluates the commercial potential of projects that come from the Science and Education Committee and provides analysis to the Executive Committee
- Relays commercial assessment information to the Executive Committee for final decision regarding inclusion in the center
- Creates a bridge with intellectual property offices and industry partners in order to facilitate licensing opportunities
- Establishes commercialization milestones for each individual project
- Monitors the progress of each project in achieving milestones
- Identifies resources needed to move projects along commercialization pathways, i.e., validation and seed funding, external consultants, service providers, content experts
- Promotes the development of Ohio businesses and jobs through the cooperative utilization of center resources and proactive interactions with partners
The full committee will meet on a bimonthly basis to:
- Evaluate new projects
- Review the progress of all current projects
- Make final recommendations to the Executive Committee for inclusion in the Computational Medicine Center or for resources and / or triaging as needed
A smaller working group dedicated to supporting the full Commercialization Committee will be established. The working group will be a subset of the full committee and will meet on a monthly basis. This group will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the concept development, feasibility assessment, market analysis, initial business plan recommendations and implementation strategy recommendations
- Monitoring invention disclosures, provisional and full patent filings, CDA's, signing and monitoring of contract agreements, etc.
- Reporting to the full committee for additional input and for finalization of plans and decisions. At least one representative from this group will attend meetings of the Science and Education Committee to facilitate communication between the two groups.
